The Fall of 2006 didn’t seem different from other Rush periods,
until a freshman by the name of James Hulley walked in through the red
door at Penn Theta. An outstanding brother, James Hulley exemplifies
the cardinal principles of virtue, diligence and brotherly love through
his devotion to his brothers and his performance in Division III Track
and Field.
As the Brother Mentor Challenge Coordinator, James Hulley has helped guide house culture and ushered in a new era of continued campus involvement and member development. As the Guide on the Standards board, James takes an active role in mentoring brothers struggling with academics and other disciplinary issues. As one of the older brothers in the house, James has seen it all, and remains a voice of reason and guidance. Brother James has also participated in Buggy, helping propel our Spring 2009 buggy to fifth place.
Outside of the house, James is a successful mechanical engineering major who has made a name for himself as a star thrower for Carnegie Mellon’s Division III Track and Field team. With nine individual conference championships under his belt and two national appearances, James Hulley is a force to be reckoned with. He has continued to excel in events such as the shot put, discus, and hammer throw, hoping to finally make a mark at the national level, and take a few more conference titles.
Brother James Hulley will graduate in May 2010, and hopes to pursue a career in mechanical engineering, while also potentially volunteering as a high school throwing coach.
