Balanced Man Scholarship – 2011

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this only for students who are interested in SigEp?

No! All incoming students are encouraged to apply. This gives an opportunity to tell you what we’re about and for us to get to know you a little better as well. This is about rewarding achievement, not getting you to go Greek. If you’re interested, that’s okay. If you’re not, that’s okay too.

Who does this scholarship acknowledge?

The Balanced Man Scholarship was created to reward incoming male students who show achievement on all the dimensions that SigEp values in the “Balanced Man Ideal”—scholar, leader, athlete and gentleman.

How many people earn a scholarship?

There is one Balanced Man, one Balanced Man runner-up and four commendable achievements for each of the four dimensions—scholar, leader, athlete and gentleman. Only the Balanced Man and the Balanced Man runner-up receive a scholarship.

How much is the scholarship for?

This year, we’re offering two scholarships for both the Balanced Man and the Balanced Man Runner-Up. The scholarships are for $1,000 and $500, respectively.

Who can apply?

Any incoming male student who will be attending Carnegie Mellon for the FIRST time is encouraged to apply. Took time off? That’s okay. Transferring? That’s okay, too.

What do I need to do?

All you need to do is fill-out the online application at www.sigepcmu.com! The application closes on July 25th, 2011. So be sure to fill out the application before then.

What are my chances?

We typically have 125-150 applicants each year.

How are applications evaluated?

All applicants will be scored for balance, scholar, leader, athlete and gentleman based on the application and interviews and the scores from each round are combined. Then committee meets and reviews the final scores to make their final decision.
